Art Institute comes to NRS

The Art Institute has announced that it is pursuing plans to relocate the Austin campus to Bastrop in summer 2020 to provide students with unparalleled industry immersion opportunities at new facilities. The Art Institute, which offers degrees in design, media arts, culinary arts and fashion, will be a sprawling campus in Bastrop County with two facilities with classrooms in downtown Bastrop and one near Elgin at New Republic Studios, a creative campus where film, TV, commercials, new media, AR/VR and immersive media is shot and produced. At New Republic Studios, the institute will lease a proposed 11,000-square-foot building that would house audio recording rooms, lab space, editing rooms, voice-over rooms and ancillary space. The Bastrop Economic Development Corporation is building a two-story, 9,000-square-foot building at 921 Main St., where the institute will lease both floors and house administrative offices and classrooms. The institute will also lease most of the Lost Pines Art Center, a $5.5 million, 12,000-square-foot facility with four silos owned by the Lost Pines Art League, where it will have classrooms in working studios, silos and in an art gallery.
